Mission and Strategy
Our mission is to advance ergonomic knowledge on how to design and evaluate effective and health-promoting computing systems to support the individual and cooperative work of humans in organizations. We consider all kinds of systems for stationary and mobile computing that are used in and across workplaces and at their boundaries (e.g. online communities of practices). Special attention is paid to developing innovative concepts and methods for the participatory ergonomic design of human-computer interactions and technologies for human mediation in co-located and distant settings. We strive to encourage the formulation of universal design principles for computing systems that are inherently accessible to people both with and without functional limitations. Based upon universal design principles, we encourage the development of individualized ergonomic solutions, taking particular care to integrate relevant cultural, gender and age aspects. We focus on practices that have been proven successful by research methodology and that have produced consistent ergonomic benefits for users. We strive to investigate methods that support cooperation and communication processes through technology mediation (e.g. multimodality, augmented reality, wiki technologies) and to promote the diversification of well-designed work with computing systems.
Our strategy is to organize and support collaborative events where researchers and practitioners can share their knowledge and experience on working with computing systems. These events will focus on:
- User health, well-being and productivity with special reference to culture, gender and age aspects
- Usability of workplace and mobile computing systems
- Cognitive ergonomic design of information and communication technology at work
- Ergonomic design of highly interactive multimodal user interfaces and platforms for online communities with special reference to physical and psychological wellbeing
- Exploring the role of online communities in improving the flow of important work variables in workplace socialization and collaboration practices and in learning at work
- Interaction between theory and practice
Structure
The Technical Committee is a peer group of researchers and practitioners without a hierarchical substructure.
