The Technical Committee on MusculoSkeletal Disorders Webinar Series
For decades, ergonomics practitioners have relied on observation based, manual assessment tools to identify, quantify, and prioritize musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) risks in the workplace. However, traditional observational tools are often difficult to use, hard to explain, and prone to user error. Emerging technologies, especially computer vision, offer promising alternatives, but challenges remain. These include limitations in motion capture accuracy, issues with occlusion due to camera positioning, lack of integrated biomechanical analysis, and the impact of unreliable force input data. In this presentation, we explore how the next generation of AI technologies, powered by advancements in computer vision, can transform ergonomics assessments through scalable, nonwearable software solutions. We will focus on how AI can address current limitations and help shape the future of ergonomics risk management.
