IEA Webinar: 12th May (Tuesday), 2026, at 13.00 UTC/GMT (9.00 EDT); 22.00 JST
This webinar is hosted by IEA The Technical Committee on Anthropometry
Users of human body dimension data often assume that all measurements are obtained using comparable methods. Until the adoption of 3D body scanners in anthropometric surveys, measurement protocols were largely standardized (e.g. the Martin method), and variability mainly depended on the measurer’s skill. With the introduction of 3D scanning technologies, new sources of variability emerge. This webinar will address key considerations to ensure comparability between traditional datasets and those obtained using modern methods.
Presenters:
Dr. Masaaki Mochimaru – Deputy Director at the Digital Human Research Laboratory (AIST) and AIST Fellow (2023). He has held key leadership roles in ISO standardization, including Chair of ISO TC159/SC3 (2008–2016), ISO PC329 (2020–2024), and currently ISO TC324.
Dr. Makiko Kouchi (D.Sci) – Senior Researcher at AIST. Her work focuses on human body variation (growth, secular change, movement) and 3D body shape modeling. She is also a recognized expert in anthropometry (1D & 3D), including measurement error quantification and 3D scanner validation protocols.
Webinar Chairs:
Hyegjoo E. Choi-Rokas, PhD. – Engineering Psychologist | Applied Ergonomics Branch | U.S. ARMY DEVCOM Soldier Center, Natick, MA 01760 | U.S. delegate for ISO/TC 159/SC 3/WG1 Anthropometry
Sandra Alemany Mut, Ph.D. – Anthropometry Research Group | INSTITUTO DE BIOMECÁNICA, València, Spain |Founding Member of World Engineering Anthropometry Resource (WEAR) | Delegate for CEN/TC 122/WG 1 Anthropometry.
